Last Call: An End of Life Festival, St. Louis’ first Death Positive festival, is the brainchild of Lauren Ponder. She is a regular person whose life experience with death and near death ultimately made her Death Positive.

“I wanted to talk to anyone who was remotely interested about death and dying and what I had learned recently. Every conversation helped me think about death differently, I began to look at death with some admiration. We all know that we are guaranteed death and taxes, right…that is the joke. But the best jokes are rooted in truth. And the truth is, none of us are getting out of this earth…this life… alive. So what is the point, what can we possibly do to not be completely depressed by this truth. It is my opinion that participating in the Death Positive movement is exactly what we should all be doing.”

Being Death Positive is one thing but putting on a Festival? That requires lots of hands and lots of people who are on the same page.

That’s where the partnerships come in. Lauren started her own company, With Love, and founded the St. Louis Death Positive Collective (you can find this private group on Facebook). From there she reached out to like-minded organizations – Bellefontaine Cemetery, Gateway End-of-Life Coalition, STL Death Cafe, and the Midwest End-of-Life Doula Collective. The people in these organizations, along with even more like-minded individuals are working to enhance the Death Positive movement in St. Louis starting with Last Call: An End of Life Festival. And continuing grow with Last Call Events, Movie Screening and Death Over Dinner.

If you and/or your organization want to join our mission, please reach out to see how we can partner on death positive events.
